Saturday 24th may 2008 started out as a
somewhat overcast day. But as the the
girls from St. Brigid's School in the
Coombe, began to arrive at the church,
the day brightened up immediately.
Rebecca Bohan Courtney Curran
Jade Byrne Nicole Farrell
Niamh Donovan Mollie Hempenstall
Shannon Grant Angelika Kaminska
Katie Kavanagh Taylor McDonald
Meghan Salinger Sinéad Tobin
Nicole Upton Holly Ward
were coming to the Church of St. Nicholas of Myra in Francis Street, with their families and friends, to celebrate their First holy Communion.
They were not alone, they had the support of their parents and families and of course their teachers. Ms. Kerrigan, their teacher looked wonderful while Ms. Early the Principal, and Ms. O'Brien the Choir Mistress were equally resplendent in their outfits.
But as the girls know, it's not what we wear that makes us beautiful it's what is in our hearts. The girls did all the singing themselves and did it beautifully. They showed a lovely respect for God's word and the prayers of the mass.
All in all it was a beautiful celebration, which takes the girls on to the next part of their journey in becoming full members of God's Family. We look forward to the day when they come to be Confirmed. In the meantime, we, their parish, families and teachers, have to support them in living by God's Love.
That means helping them to put into practice, the prayer they prayed after communion:
"Thank you Lord Jesus, O thank you for giving yourself to me. Make me strong to show your love wherever I may be".
And finally, a word of thanks and congratulations to their parents, families and teachers who have shown them so much love and care. May it always be so.
Fr. Martin
