HANDEL'S MESSIAH

A candlelit performance of Handel’s Messiah will take place in St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral on Tuesday 20th December 2011 at 8pm. This magical rendition of Handel’s best known work will feature an array of musical talent including The Palestrina Choir, Dublin Bach singers, St Mary’s Pro Cathedral Girls Choir, the orchestra of St Cecilia, along with a range of solo singers. Tickets for this festive highlight are €20 and are available at the Pro Cathedral shop (01-8745441).

VOLUNTEERS IEC 2012

Volunteers urgently needed for the 50th International Eucharistic Congress 2012
The 50th International Eucharistic Congress 2012 (IEC2012) will take place in Dublin from 10th to 17th June 2012.
Volunteers will have an integral role to play in the success of the Congress. Between two and three thousand volunteers will be needed during the week of the Congress and also to assist in preparations in the months leading up to the Congress. The Congress is now recruiting volunteers for a wide range of roles such as administration, data entry, stewards, marketing, transport, meet & greet, multimedia, pastoral preparation and much more! We need 10 people per parish from the Dublin diocese.

AGE ACTION CARE AND REPAIR

Are you 60+ years of age? Have you a small repair job which you would like to have done for you?
The Care and Repair programme (run by Age Action Ireland) uses a pool of trustworthy volunteers and handypersons to carry out minor repairs for older people.
All volunteers are vetted and carry official Care and Repair identification cards. The service is free; you only pay for the materials used.
For your bigger jobs, we maintain a register of reliable and honest tradespersons. We are also accepting requests for small gardening jobs.
You can arrange to have a job done for you by phoning the Age Action Care and Repair number which is 1890 369 369 or 01-4756989.

isolated and alone dealing with this, we can help support you. Crosscare Drug and Alcohol Programme (DAP) is hosting a
‘Significant Other Support Group’ This will be:

APOSTOLIC WORK

Dublin Centre, under the patronage of His Grace, the Archbishop of Dublin. Apostolic Work are currently putting together Mass Kits for the Third World, Uganda in particular. They are looking for sewers or stitchers to join them in their work. Archbishop Diarmuid Martin wishes to make it known that Clive Lynn, also known as Cathal O’ Lionn, formerly a priest of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe USA, was found guilty and dismissed from the clerical state on the 12th November, 2004 by Pope John Paul II, as a penalty for the sexual abuse of minors. He is forbidden to present himself as a priest, wear clerical attire or perform acts of ministry that are reserved to the sacred priesthood. The faithful are to be alerted in particular that Mr. Lynn or O’Lionn is not a priest in good standing and is consequently prohibited from celebrating the Eucharist or performing any priestly ministry.

OFFICE OF EVANGELISATION

The Office of Evangelisation have provided a number of resources to support an ongoing reading of the Gospel of Matthew in Lent. A poster is being distributed to parishes, including a prayer card that will be distributed in parishes. Also a special edition of e-Good News is available to accompany the reading of the Sunday Gospels. A short scripture course on St. Matthew can be downloaded also. The Catholic Church became a full member of the Dublin Council of Churches in 2008. CROI NA TIRE IRISH HOSPITAL VOLUNTEERS

This is part of a pilot programme to introduce volunteers at Public Hospitals and Elderly Care Units countrywide.

Croi Na Tire (Irish Hospital Volunteers) has been setup by a voluntary body under the honorary Presidency of our former Taoiseach, Albert Reynolds. St. James Hospital is part of a pilot programme to introduce volunteers at Public Hospitals and Elderly Care Units countrywide. This project has been supported by SIPTU, The Royal College of Surgeons, the Irish Nurses Organization, and the Department of Health.
 

By donating a few hours to volunteer each week you can make a positive difference in your own life and in the lives of others. Among the duties of the volunteers will be to talk with and listen to patients as well as reading and playing cards etc. with them.
This project will be of major benefit to all who attend Irish hospitals as a patient, relative or visitor as well as to the hospital service.

For the past fourteen years Rev. Tony Byrne CSSP and Sr. Kathleen Maguire PBVM MA have researched suicidology and facilitated courses on suicide prevention and bereavement support. They have helped numerous suicidal people to avoid taking their own lives. Thye have given solace to many people bereaved by suicide. Now they have produced a CD on Facing up to Suicide which presents the wealth of their expertise and vast experience of suicide prevention.
