"I'm sorry, I don't know what came over me. It'll never happen again, honest! We'll start again and forget all about it", he says.
Once again she gives in to "hope". "Besides, I know I annoy him. In some way I have to share the blame", she's thinking to herself.
The truth is that she is not to blame. When a man inflicts, physical, emotional, financial and or sexual abuse on his wife/partner and children, he and he alone, is responsible. There is no excuse. He must accept that responsibility and get professional help.
In the meantime, how does the woman cope and look after her children, particularly if the man does not accept responsibility nor seek help. To be alone and without support in that situation is unbearable.
For many years most women had nowhere to turn to. Thankfully today there is "Women's Aid". It is a voluntary organisation, which was founded in 1974. Sadly after 35 years it is still very much needed.
If you and your children, or someone you know is suffering violence in the home contact "Women's Aid" on their National Free Phone Helpline:
